The realm of the First Nations (since 10,000 years ago)

Acadia of the Lands and Forests has been for thousands of years the realm of people that migrated from west to east from Asia. The First Nation living in the area is called Wolastoqiyik, or Maliseet for Europeans.

In the beginning there were… the lands and forests

Seen from the International Space Station, the territory that we now call Acadia of the Lands and Forests appears without boundaries. As before the arrival of humans. This timeline divides the history of the region into five major periods and recalls various events that marked its character.

Can you see…

The St. John River?

The Madawaska River?

Lake Témiscouata?

The international and interprovincial boundaries?
